I have a 2002 Chevy Prizm with a door handle/lock issue on the front passenger side door. The handle is stuck in the "open" position, but the door is locked and I can't unlock it (manual locks). The ultimate cause of this problem is a friend tried to pull open the door after she had accidentally pushed down the lock with her arm. So the handle is stuck open, the door is locked, and I am unable to unlock the door either from the inside or the outside using the key. As a result, I can't get the door open.

It sounds like the latch lock rod has fallen off or the latch is jammed in which case you will need to remove the door panel after taking out the passenger seat. I have seen my guys pull both front seats to gain access. Here is a guide to help you remove the door panel with diagrams below to show you how to replace the latch.

Once the panel is off disconnect the control rods and move them by hand to unlock the door latch.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers
