Hesitates

My blazer recently has not been backing up right away when I have put it in reverse and after pressing on the excelerator. If on a hill, it may even roll forward a little. I then put in into park, and put it into reverse again, listening for the engine to respond. In conjunction with this concern, my truck has been delaying slightly when I excelerate. Neither of these are consistantly happening however, the vehicle did not have these problem until I brought it home from the dealership mechanic with a new fuel pump installed. Could there be any connection to the repair?

First if the problem seems to be that the transmission is, "slipping" in reverse but not other gears, there is an internal problem with the transmission. Now the fact that forward or drive has started to do this as well indicates some internal problem that would probably require a rebuild. Possibilities could be eliminated as to electronic control issues by having trouble codes scanned. This can be done at any Auto Zone or Advance Auto for free.
If I mis-understood and the hesitation is related to engine performance, the same trouble code reading will give you some direction into the cause of the problem and will be the best way to see if it may be connected to the repair.
Anytime a vehicle is repaired the possibility of damaging other parts or leaving something unhooked, like a vacuum line that was not re-attached, could be something that just happened and it is not necassarliy a sign of poor workmanship, just a mishap.
To go over the possibilities of hesitation related to engine performance, however the reverse gear being the major hesitation made me think you were talking about a transmission related problem, I am giving you a link to a walk through diagnostic on engine hesitation issues.

Do you have a check engine light and when was last tune-up?

Have the fuel pressure checked if its within specs, check the transmission fluid level and condition-to me it seems like the transmission is slipping, bring it in and have it further checked out-

Engine Performance problem
2000 Chevy Blazer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 145000 miles

Hi all, thanks so much in advance for your help. In my 2000 Blazer (4.3L V6), when you first start it and put it in drive, it will "hesitate" for probably 10 to 15 seconds, meaning that it will have a severe lack of power for that 10 or 15 seconds then will be fine the rest of the drive no matter how long or short the drive. This doesn't ALWAYS happen, but more often than not. I've already had the fuel filter and cap and rotor replaced and none of those have helped at all. I did a diagnostic check at my local AutoZone and it came up with an Airflow problem. Is it possible that this is a faulty or dirty master air flow sensor? Thanks so much for any and all help!

You hit the nail on the head. Try cleaning sensor with cleaner before replacing it. But you might need to replace it.

So far so good! I went in with the spray and it at least has WAY more power than it did before, and so far (knocking on wood) no hesitations. Thanks so much again, mastertechtim!
