2001 saturn sw2 driving low end gentle accelerating and car bucks as a manual would when lugging in to high a gear except this is an automatic. High speed has less noticable roughness but down shifting seems a bit slow when pressing accelerator.

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.

Just to add to this one do you have any codes? Also number one cause for bucking on excelleration on those cars is bad spark plug wires. Is the bucking worse with the ac on?First thing I would check is plugs and wires. Make sure you dont have platnuim spark plugs in the engine they carbon foul in those engines.
