2001 Saturn L100 Question

Real sluggish to start, then builds up speed, but then at stop light I tried to accelerate, and it started to die but then caught acceleration but found that my car wouldn't go faster, yet the rpm needle was at 4. Error codes were read at 300 and 420 but dont know what those are...What could be wrong?
The car is a 2001 Saturn sedan.
