What is wrong with my car?
2001 Pontiac Sunfire WhenI turned on my air conditioner today my car made a terrible LOUD noise It sounds like a grinding ,clunking noise'like something is broke or hanging. Please Help-Afraid To Drive Thanks Carol

So this noise is only when you turn on the air? If so if should be safe to drive as long as you dont mind not being able to use the defrost feature with uses the ac also.. But your problem sounds like major compressor failure. dealing with ac you can have the ac system evacuated and replace the compressor yourself and have a shop service the system then.
