2001 Mercury Sable Repair Question

Autolamp system seems to be failing as it stays on all the time. Is it the switch or the sensor? Also the dash llights go off but headlights stay on -
The dash lights go off without warning while the head lights stay on - The auto-lamp system does not shut off during the day.However when I move the switch to the usual side (Park and then Headlamps) does work. Is it the switch itself or the sensor?

could be either or. testing must be done to verify. a shop with a scan tool can verify through the GEM module to see what the commands are
