Why does my RPM guage go up and down?

While driving, the RPM guage will go up and down but it doesn't cause the car to function differently.

check your trans fluid and have a trasn guy look at it.they normally dont' charge for an opinion.

Does it occur only when stopped and at idle and/or while driving slowly?
Is the Malfunction Indicator Light showing?
