Hyundai Accent Clutch Problem

My car was sputtering while driving then when you come to a stop it would die, it would start back up with no problems. I replaced the O2 sensor, plugs and wires and still had the same issues, then from there it started having problems starting after being turned off. It has a manual transmission, it is a 2001 Hyundai accent 4 cyl 1.6 ltr with 88,526 original miles on it. When I got in the car this morning and tried to start it, it did nothing, all the lights and the radio work, but when you turn the key, nothing, I was told the clutch was out. Could the clutch being out cause these problems? Or do you have any ideas on what might be the problem?
Thank you for your time,
