Loud knocking in the engine with a little bit of smoke. Is there a temporary solution to this problem.

Drive a different vehicle.

Unless you know the history that led up to this, start by tugging on the vibration damper to see if it's loose or the outer ring is coming apart. If it is okay, suspect a spun connecting rod bearing. Driving it that way will only make it worse.
