Engine shuts off after starting.

I drove my car to Wal-Mart, and everything was just fine. However, upon returning to my car, I turned the key and the car started up. About a second later the RPMs dropped and the engine shut off. This happened about 5 times and finally, when I started the car, I gave it a little gas before it died and was just fine.
