Car does not slow when I let off the gas.

When I let off the gas pedal, the car just coasts on and on without slowing, after a while gravity takes effect, but I notice it takes much longer for my car to slow when letting off the gas than other peoples. The idle is just fine, and is at the recommended 600. Could this be the converter?

Check throttle plate for gummed up dirty making it sticky.

If in neutral at stop if you raise rpm to 2500 and let off does it go right back down to 600?

When it does it's 'thing' and you let off gas does rpm drop any?

Yeah, it drops gradually. As the speed drops, the Rpm drops.

The transmission has an overrunning clutch. It's supposed to coast when you let off the throttle. That's increases fuel economy.

I was assuming there was some kind of CHANGE in the way the car acted from previous experience. If it's always been this way then it's hard to judge without exact time vs distance calculations if it's abnormal or intended by design.

If the RPMs are coming down immediately when he lets off the throttle, then it's acting normal.
