Front drive line slop

I have a 2001 ranger 4wd v6 and I got like half an inch slop side to side when twisting it and does the front driveline always spin even when in 2wd

On the ground, it wont spin till the 4 wheel is engaged.

Side to side? Are you talking about play in the thrie or the whole power train?

With truck on the ground turned off I can turn the front drive line about half an inch with my hands is this normal and does the fron drive line spin all the time even when in 2wd

Yes, it will spin all the time.

Do the axles have the play or is the the whole diff.

What do you mean by axels it must have a little play in the front diff and transfer case Is that normal to have that half inch play

1/2 inch is not bad at all. Is there any noise when driving?

Well when I go to brake at a stop sign I hear a click click click noise kinda like a a playing card going against spokes on a bicicycle it only does it when braking to a stop and it sound like it is coming fron the front area so I thought it was maybe a u joint cause front brakes all new replaced them 6 months ago and this is the first time I have heard this noise

I would pull the wheels as it is brake related. The backing plte, hardware or something else may be giving you the noise.

Would a cv join make that noise how you tell if that is going bad or a wheel bearing is going bad

If either one was bad, it would do it all the time not just braking.
