I have a 2001 Ford Escape with 185,000 miles. Back in August I started noticing that it was sputtering when starting from cold and after it warmed up it would stop. I put fuel injector cleaner in and it would help for a few days then start again. It seems like it will stall but never does. I had the vac hose, air filter and fuel filter replaced and also had the throttle cleaned and the fuel pump cleaned and it is no better. Today the check engine light came on. I don't have tons of money to waste and really don't want to get rid of the car, I have had it for 10 years. Help please!

If the check engine light came on, that is a good thing. It will identify where the problem is coming from. Take the vehicle to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer. Most will do it for free.

Let me know what they find.
