Haven't used the truck for a number of years. Cleaned it up and got it going. Runs fine but the 4x4 shifter will not move. Disconnected the link and the lever moves freely. Tried tapping the lever at the transfer case from underneath but it wont move either way. Seem to me frozen. It there anything I can try before pulling it off the truck for a rebuild?

Thanks.

Try spraying lever area with penetrating oil and use a small torch to heat area up and tap with a hammer around the casting, it may break free but it cold be a problem inside case as well. Also you might drive it after checking fluid for a little while and see if that frees it up but it very well may be an internal problem. One other thing it may be wound up as well due to different axle ratior front to rear, try backing it up about a 100 ft then try to shift.

The heat and along with the tapping got it to move it a bit. After that I rigged up a 1 inch pipe and was able to free it up wit a pipe wrench. Appreciate the advice.
