2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Repair Question
Mileage: 129,000 miles.
Overheating problem PT Cruiser
So question is, does this still suggest bad or poorly working water pump? is it possible for this to be a pin-hole leak in head gasket? Crack in block? Fluid is still green and no apparent oil in fluid, no water in oil as that was recently changed as well. This one is really baffling me! HELP?
Answer
first, i would have a leak down test done by a shop to verify head gasket condition. then I would check the radiator for flow.you can do a temp check from one side to the other. the last part would be checking the water pump. have not seen many impeller issues with these.

First, how can this be a duplicate question? this is my first posting on this site. Next, how does one accomplish a temp check from one side to the other on a closed system?
Also, would a cylinder presure tester from AutoZone accomplish the same thing (or similar) as a leak down test?
Its a duplicate question when you post the same question more then once which you did and i posted a response to the other exact same question you posted.Which iam still waiting for a response over on that question. That is why i labeled this one duplicate.Because what happens is people ask the same question on different posted questions sometimes over four times and different moderators answer each of these questions when they can be helping other users who havent gotten an aswer to there question yet.By not labeling these duplicate questions when we find them can be counter productive by wasting resources of our moderators answering the same posted questions over and over again. So please go to your other posted question where i responded to you and had some questions for you myself. Thanks in advance for your understanding.
first, the pressure tester I am referring to is a spoecial on that goes in where the spark plugs are that measures the amount of pressure loss over a period of time.
you need a temp gun that will tell the temp of the radiator. this is done externally.
the tools are available for this at a parts store but it is cheaper to spend 34.99 to have a shop check it. the tools will run you 150-200 bucks.

Saturntech9, any chance you can send me a link to the 'other' question you mentioned? This system only informs me on the single question. I wonder if it somehow got entered twice by mistake. I really would like to view your responses.
Roy, your answers are great. I will call my local shop where a friend of mine works, see what they charge. Hope my shop is as inexpensive as you mention, but I fear they are not. This shop recently replaced a broken wiper arm assembly for my in-laws, at the tune of $300! :(
