1991 Mercury Sable I Both Worked On Car Removing The Fuel Rail And Ran Out Of Gas

Check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light.

My car has a problem starting warm; it floods out, I have to press gas pedal to start car. Has new fuel and air filters and ran a can of Seafoam through fuel system, did not fix the problem. It is not giving any codes from the computer. First start up is fine (when engine is cold) and when engine is running it runs normal. what do you think? Does it need a sensor or something in the fuel system?

Without a check engine light, it becomes a guessing game on today's cars. My first thought is the temperature sensor. What that sensor does is this. It measures ambient temp and coolant temperature. From that, the computer determines how rich or lean to make the fuel mixture. If the sensor tells the computer it is much colder than it actually is, the fuel mixture will be too rich.

Also, I would recommend checking fuel pump pressure. The regulator may be allowing too much pressure to build up in the fuel rail. If you need directions, refer to our homepage under the DIY section. There are both directions and a video explaining how to perform the check. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, but most parts stores will lend or rent you one.

I am currently having trouble with my car it has 105,000 miles. At times when you try to start the car, when you turn the key you get absolutely nothing. The battery checks at 12 volts, and when you leave the key in the on position you get an "unknown driver" message, the door locks, trunk button, heated seats, gas gauge, and radio will not work, and the airbag, security, check engine, lights will stay lit up, and the mileage will not register, all you see is "--". After letting it sit for a day or two it may start. While doing some highway driving, it went in and out of this mode four or five times. The engine ran fine, but the above problems still take place. Any suggestions?

Start by checking your battery cables and ground connections at the battery and all major connections under the hood.

Could also be an ignition switch or cylinder problem.
