Volkswagen Beetle Water pump Problem

Ok so my mom has a 2000 VW beatle 1.8 Turbo and as soon as you start he car the temperature light comes on along with an alarm...if you drive it not even 5 minutes the water in the coolant reservoir is boiling and smoking! And also if you get out and look under the car water is dripping from the power steering pully. Obviously the water is not coming from the power steering pump but i can tell its coming from behind it somewhere. I replaced the coolant hose flange because it was dripping from that too but that didnt slove the problem. Thanks for your time, Please help.

sounds like the water pump.

the fact that it has overheated, many times i assume, you may have damaged the head gasket. have a leak down test done to confirm the head gasket

The light comes on because of low coolant level... the water is boiling because the water pump is broken.

You need to replace the water pump, timing belt & tensioner.... you can check for correct water pump flow like this:

Good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJN3biTfdGE&feature=plcp

The stock pumps have plastic impellers that break:

This is a video of me showing what is involved to replace the timing belt & water pump on a 1.8T Jetta engine: (same engine as yours)

Once those items have been replaced, you can verify thermostat & Radiator fan operation.
