My mechanic said the rear triailing arm bushings on my 2000 Saturn LS need to be replaced @ $680. The vehicle's current mileage is 92000 miles. Is this a safety issue?

It can become a safety issue once they get bad enough. If you hear a clunk or knock from the rear when the brakes are applied, chances are he is right. Also, that can cause the vehicle to wonder on the road when they get bad enough.
