Car is locking in secound gear and releasing when I remove the selector housing

The car lock when try to go up my drive way there is a sprng loaded locking pin on the house which I suspect is hold the gear in place while divng but dosnt release when shit out of secound this is an intermitent problem

Is this a manual transmission?
