OLDSMOBILE ALERO STEERING PROBLEM
2000 Oldsmobile Alero • 150,000 miles
Power steering working fine on the Alero before it sat untouched for 2 months. Now on a cold start-up, there's a hard grinding sound and feel from the power steering when the steering wheel is turned. Power steering container level is adequate and clear prior to start-up. After initial warmup there's still the hard grinding sound and feel. Now with engine shutoff, power steering fluid is frothy, appears to have very small bubbles in it and the fluid level has risen to the top of the inside of the container, but after a short time, with the car still off, the fluid level recedes to a normal level. If I then turn the car on with the receded fluid level and turn the steering wheel, the grinding sound and feel from the power steering mechanism has reduced about 80%, still not normal. Also, no idiot lights on at all. Any idea what's wrong? Thank-you in advance.
