The brake discs are loose but won't come off

Trying to remove the rear discs from a CLK230. They have come loose but are restrained by the inner parking drum. How can I release the parking brake shoes in order to remove and replace discs? The discs appear to be loose but when pulled forward slightly it then springs back into place. Obviously the parking inner brakes are preventing removal and I am reluctant to apply force as I might damage something. What do I need to do to free the rotor?

Rotate the disc and look in through the holes for the wheel nuts (you'll probably need a small light). There's a small cog / wheel. Turn the wheel with a flat head screw driver to let back the brake shoes, this should release the disc, turn the gear the opposite direction when refitting the new disc to tighten up the shoes.
