The check engine light is on and flashing on my Mazda 626 what do I need to check

Just changed thermostat check engine light stayed on not car is sputtering and when I get it to 55 mph the check engine light flashes

If it is flashing, chances are you have an engine misfire. What you need to do is scan the computer to identify trouble codes. Also, double check to make sure you didn't disconnect any plug wires.
