2000 LINCOLN TOWNCAR V-8 HESITATES/SURGES

WHEN I DRIVE 35 MPH AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN 3RD, THEN COAST A BIT BEFORE SLOWLY ACCELLERATING AGAIN OR GOING UPHILL BEFORE SHIFTING INTO OVERDRIVE THE CAR BUCKS, SURGES, AND HESITATES. IF I GO AHEAD AND GIVE IT ENOUGH GAS TO KICK BACK A GEAR, THERE IS NO HESITATION OR SURGING.
