2000 jimmy whining sound coming from under dash at start to 40 mph-after that you hear engine. As you slow down 40-10 mph you hear it again(sounds like air liner engines winding up. Rear pinion seal and outer bearing was done left from hub assbly was replaces all wheels seem to have the right amount of play in them 4wd works fine what can it possibly be! Driving me up the wall! Some one told me it was the alternator. Only makes the sound when everything starts turning forward- revers it's not heard at all

Have you got manuel lockers on the 4x4 that are locked in?Front shaft bearing maybe going and your hearing it while locked in. It won't get play in the bearing til it fails more. Other causes can be tires with warped tread, big meat tires can roar at low speeds and go away at higher speeds, bearing come loose or running dry (no grease) locker bearing failing( manual locker hub)diff bearing. Kind of hit and miss looking for it. Try driving around for 2hrs and then feeling the bearing on the drive shaft for heat, if too hot to touch it's going bad.
