P0351 AND P0353 ERROR CODES
2000 Ford Windstar • 210,000 miles
I have a 2000 Ford Windstar. 3.8L. I am getting a rough idle on engine and will stall out if driven. Problem started with a misfire code on number 5. I changed ignition coil twice with a new one, replaced all spark plugs and gapped to correct specs. All plug wires have been changed. Verified correct wiring order for plugs wires and coil. The last codes pulled from an Advanced Auto location were - p0351 and p0353. Which indicated a primary and secondary failure on coil. Checked 4 wires on plug for coil pack. Pin 1 - b+ 14v. 3 other wires back to pcm ohmed out good, no short or open. I am still getting a rough idle on engine and will stall out if driven. Just a side note; the old coil had a hole on the side of number 6 slot and there was a lot of black carbon build up at bottom of 6 slot of coil. The rough idle seemed to get worse after I changed all plugs and wires. I tried putting everything back the way it was before I the started repair including coil, still same identical rough idle pattern. Not sure if problem is with PCM or not. How can I troubleshoot the pcm properly to determine if the problem is with the PCM? Or do you know of another possible solution to the problem?
