What do I do about the noise and problem with reverse?

I have a 2000 Ford Explorer. When I try to "reverse", there is a crunching sound (like bad breaks) and it is very hard for the truck to move backwards. When I am in "drive" I don't have any problems with the breaks. ONLY in reverse I am having an issue.
Someone suggested that I put trans fluid in. No help.
What could be wrong &What should I do?

have a trans guy run a scan and give you an opinion, you may have two clutches applying when it should only be one.
