My 2000 ford contour with a 2.5 liter engine will start blowing cold air and the temperature gauge will go all the way up to hot and then it blows hot air and the temperature gauge goes back to normal operating range. Ive changed the thermostat and the etc sensor as well as the upper radiator hose. Any ideas

Sounds like you need to bleed the cooling system

You likely have a leak in the system and you need to pressure test the system to find and repair it. Bleeding the system will work temporarily but the problem will return when it gets low again and you are risking doing serious engine damage in the meantime.

Thanx for replying. I check my coolant regularly and the coolant has always been at the rite level and there are no spots on the ground where I park my car. How would I go about bleeding the system? And how would that solve my issue. Any ideas are welcome. Ive been trying to fix this problem for 2 and a half months and I am very frustrated

The system can't get air into it without a leak. It can be evaporating before it hits the ground. You do need to pressure test to find out where it's going.
