2000 Dodge Neon Repair Question

My car will not start, while driving and accelerating on the freeway the revs would not go up but the engine was still running and would not accelerate it came to a stop, and turned engine off but after when trying to start it the engine turns over but does not start, my friends tell me it is the clutch safety switch, what could it be?

forget the advice.
does the starter work??
if it does. then start with a compression test, fuel pressure and spark test.
if it does not, start with a battery test
