Yesterday got gas left station and realized I was not in first. Tried to shift down and had 2nd but not 1st or overdrive. Drove at 1500 rpm for some distance to get home. Then after about 20 min. Tried it again and still no o-drive or 1st or 2nd. Stopped got more gas and it shifted just fine no problems. Next day did great drove about 30 mi. Stopped and when we restarted no gears only 3rd. Stopped shut off then we had all the gears clear home and no problems to day! Changed fluid and fliter looked fine. Maybe a shift cylanoid?

It may have been a sticky shift solenoid. However, you did the best thing. Changing the fluid and filter can remove contamination making the solenoid stick. So, you may find that the problem clears up just fine.
If you do run into trouble, pull the trouble codes. Advance Auto or Auto Zone will do this for free.
If you have to get further diagnostics or repair, take it to a transmission shop as opposed to a standard repair facility. Automatic transmissions are hard to work on and take special expertise and tools. If you need a transmission shop near you, use the search feature on this site and shops near you will be in the text and banner ads on the page.
