my 2000 dodge caravan brake pedal stays firm for a second then goes soft and i bleed the brakes

If it goes soft, check to make sure there are no leaks. Have a helper press the brakes while you watch the rubber brake lines to make sure they are not expanding. If they are good, there are no leaks, chances are the master cylinder is bad.
