2000 Cadillac El Dorado Repair Question

Cadillac will not run
We have a 2000 Cadillac Eldorado that will crank and start, but will not run unless you give it gas. The moment you take your foot off the gas it'll die. The battery was completely dead and wouldn't even take a charge so I replaced that but still the same thing happens. Any help at all would be much appreciated as our budget just cant afford a major repair right now.

When the battery went dead the computer lost it's adaptive memory and now has to relearn the target idle strategy. A few miles of normal driving should do that.
