What can cause my engine so stutter & engine stalls out

I smell gas when I start the car & has a lot of black smoke coming from the exaust pipe. Engine will stutter until it goes into second gear sometimes

Black smoke indicates a rich fuel mixture could be one of the following below:

1. Excessive fuel pressure can be cause by restricted fuel return line

2. Defective Oxygen Sensors.

3. Leaking injectors and fuel pressure regulator.

4. Coolant temperature sensor out of calibration.

5. Restricted air intake system.

The engine also sounds like it flooded at times when the car stalls out.

Check and test all of it and report back your testing results for evaluation
