2000 Audi Quattro Repair Question

Problems with the tiptronic on my Audi A6
The transmission operates well (no clunking, no unusual noises) while in normal automatic mode, but the 'Tiptronic' function does not work. Moving the shifter to the Tiptronic slot does nothing. There is no response.
My question is: Is this a mechanical problem, or is there perhaps an electrical problem (fuse, chip) which is preventing the operation of the Tiptronic?? It seems that a little piece of plastic is loose in the slot. It doesn't switch in the display in the dashboard either. Nothing actually happens at all....
I'll be greatful for any suggestions...:o))

Could be the plastic piece in the slot causing it-broken inside-open it up and investigate-Also scan the TCM/Computer for code/s
