Gas smell RR wheel well when car runniing and.

Gas smell RR wheel well when car runniing and have 440 code. Smell occurred after replacement of purge valve but not immediately. Have been trying to get at LDP but it looks pretty tough to do. Any suggestions before I start tearing things apart? Cannister seems to be OK. Ken

No visible signs of gas. Anybody know what components are between gas tank and canister? No leak detection pump at Autozone so I;m thinking maybe there is some other means of venting and pressurizing.
