1.9l dual overhead cam engine. The engine locked up, so I need to replace it. I have been told that only a 1998 engine will fit. But will a 1998 engine fit in my 1999 Saturn?

So are you saying It will not work? Will it still bolt up to the transmission? The heads being different in what way? Will the brackets for the a/c unit, p/s pump, water pump, etc bolt on? Are the electrical connections different? Will the Intake, or exhaust manifolds bolt on? I guess I'm wondering if there is a relatively easy fix to make the 98 engine work? Thanks for your help.

Just so you have all the information, I have the whole 1998 car. So I can use all the parts off of it.(Transmission, manifolds, motor mounts, brackets)Anything I might need. Hopeing to be able to use it in my 1999. 1999 engines are very hard to find, and when you find one, they usually want an arm and a leg for it. Thanks again.

The heads are narrower on the 1999 engines in the timing chain area. Also does your car have air injection? The 1998 engines dont. They will all bolt up to the transmissions etc but doesnt mean its the fit you need.

Look on top of your a/c compressor see if you have a vacuum solenoid and vaccuum valve on top of it. Take a pic of your ac compressor and post it for me to see.

Sorry, could'nt get the pic to load. But the only thing on this compressor are the suction and discharge lines, and a single wire to the clutch.
