Hi,
My brother-in-law has a '99 Saab 9-3 that has had some odd problems. A year or two ago it stopped running (I'm sorry, I don't remember the particulars) and was having air conditioner problems, so the compressor was replaced and it ran fine again for some time. More recently the engine started stalling when at a stop, but primarily only when the air is on. And the air conditioning works fine otherwise, as does the engine. Just not together. Giving it some gas when stopped if it starts to die does keep it going, but that's not exactly ideal. It also shudders when taking turns quickly (around 30 mph, he said), but it's not clear whether the problem is the shocks or what. My dad had something similar happen on a '90 Toyota Celica and the problem turned out to be the half shaft. What do you think is going on with all this? Are there known problems?
Thanks!

There are no common problems. As far as the vibration when turning, does the vehicle make a clicking sound when making a sharp turn?

As for the idle, have any warning lights come on? This issue could be something as simple as a vacuum leak or a problem with the idle air control valve.

Let me know.
Joe

Nope. It just vibrates. Also, it doesn't matter which direction you're turning, it still does it when turning quickly in general.

No warning lights are on either. And like I said, the air conditioning actually works fine still this time around.

It sounds like the engine idle is getting low enough to cause you to feel it vibrate. Does the tachometer drop really low when this happens?
