I have a Clio 1999 16 v it has started to make a rattling/knocking sound.

Does not do this for short distances, gets progressively worse after 15mins of driving and less so when going over 50 miles per hour. Sounds like a stone in a tyre, that sort of sound but is very sporadic.

Does it occur on even road driving or only when road conditions are rough?

It could be anything from bad steering linkages to worn bushes and for noise problems, we are not able to provide much assistance online so it is best to get someone to have a look at the problem.

Think it may be the exhaust, main box is very wobbly and after wiggling seems to have reduced rattling. Not more noticable on rough terrain though.
