1999 Pontiac Grand Prix Repair Question

Pontiac Grand Prix Body Problem
My 1999 gp se stoped running in drive its an automatic and now I have to drive it like a stick with no clutch and even when I start in first gear it hesitates before catching. What is wrong??? A buddy said it was the gear select linkage?

is your buddy a trans tech???
it sounds like a valve body issue but you need a trans shop to confirm it.
