1999 Opel Astra starting engine light on and off

When u turn the ignition on the engine light comes on and the car can start but immediately you switch it off the engine light disappear from dash board the the car cannot start until you wait for 2 or more hours.

We have no info for these cars but it sounds like yur security system(anti theft) is doing this. If it's like aGM car turn the key on and wait for security light to go out, it can taek up until 10 minutes. When it goes out turn thekey off and see if it will start. GM makes opel so I think it's the same.
