MERCURY MYSTIQUE GAS PROBLEM
1999 Mercury Mystique
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE CAR SUDDENLY SHIFT INTO WHAT I WOULD CALL PASSING GEAR OR MAYBE ITS FIRST GEAR AND THEN QUICKLY BACK TO DRIVE THEN BACK INTO PASSING GEAR THEN BACK TO DRIVE AND SO ON, AS SOON AS ITS STARTS ILL LET OFF THE GAS AND COAST A FEW THEN VERY GENTLY GIVE IT GAS AND SOME TIMES I HAVE TO DO THIS A TIME OR TWO AND SOME TIMES NOT. ONE DAY AT RED LIGHT RED WHEN IT WENT GREEN I GENTLY GAVE IT GAS AND THERE WAS A LOUD DEEP CLUNK AND A QUICK HARD JOLT, I LET OFF GAS COASTED TO NEXT STOP AS I WENT TO GO AGAIN THE SAME THING AND I DID THE SAME THING TO THE NEXT STOP, IT DID NOT DO IT AGAIN SO DROVE HOME VERY SLOWLY. DROVE IT A COUPLE OF TIMES AFTER THAT CAR WAS FINE THEN ONE DAY DOING ABOUT 35 IT MADE THE NOISE AND THE JOLT AND I DID THE SAME AS BEFORE TILL HOME, WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS AND HOW TO FIX IT. THANKYOU
