engine stalls randomly while driving?

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee mileage: 135,000. When I drive the Jeep for some reason the engine completely shuts down. The Rpms drop and the Alternator light comes on. If I disconnect the battery and reconnect, the car restarts for a while but then shortly reacts the same way. This has puzzled me because I can go for maybe two to three days with no problems and then all of a sudden the car quits. I had it looked at and all they said is it probably needs a new computer but this is  a $600.00 investment. I changed the fuel filter. If you have any Ideas please pass them on.

This sounds like a classic ASD relay, we have had many fail in the shop. Here is the location so you can change it out. The ASD relay is inside of the PDC. Check out the images (Below). Please let us know how it goes
