1999 Holden Barina Repair Question

Holden Barina Engine Problem
My daughter barina , was smelling of smoke , I opened the bonnet and it was coming from engine , and seemed to be a ticking sound coming from the back of motor , is still driving .

stop driving till you find the source of the smoking, the reason, and have it repaired.
