OBI 2 code of misfire cylinder 3. I have replaced the plug. This is my next attempt to solve the problem. Engine does run rough.

TRY SWAPPING WIRES FROM ANOTHER CYLINDER

IF THE OTHER CYLINDER ACTS UP--REPLACE THE WIRE

ALSO INVESTIGATE THE CONDITION OF THE ROTOR BUTTON AND DISTRIBUTOR CAP...........IF THIS RIG HAS THEM!

MANY PEOPLE SORTA LET SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE FALL BY THE WAYSIDE

IF COMPONENTS SHOULDA BEEN REPLACED LONG AGO (SCHEDULED MAINTENCE--TUNE-UPS)----YOU NEED TO DO IT, WHETHER THEY FIX YOUR PROBLEM NOW OR NOT---AT MINIMUM YOU HAVE ELIMINATED "SORTA NORMAL EXPENDABLE ITEMS" FROM THE EQUATION

I TOO AM A DIYer---A PRETTY DARN GOOD ONE! IT'S BEEN WELL OVER 25 YEARS SINCE EITHER OF MY JEEPS HAVE BEEN TO A "PAY SHOP"

THIS HAS BEEN MY GUIDES FOR ALL OF MY VEHICLE'S MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS...SEE LINK

https://www.2carpros.com/questions/2007-ford-taurus-tune-up

PLEASE DO THE TESTS

RETURN WITH GOOD NEWS OR WE WILL KEEP GOING. WE WANT TO INSURE WE DO NOT HAVE TO BACKTRACK OVER SOMETHING DUMB THAT WAS NOT ADDRESSED!

IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF STUFF--MARK THINGS WITH TAPE OR A MARKER

WHEN YOU RETURN PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR "SPECIFICS" OF YOUR VEHICLE TO INCLUDE ENGINE SIZE.

RIGHT NOW, I HAVE NO CLUE WHETHER YOU HAVE A DISTRIBUTOR CAP OR NOT!

RETURN WITH A SMILE!......or we will keep slugging it out!

This is a used truck I bought last month. It has a v8 350. All the plugs and wires are new. Since this is new to me I have already purchased an MSD ignition coil. I am going to replace it even if it is not the problem. I am a novice but willing to learn and fail on my own rather than pay someone to screw me. I just need to locate the old coil and get busy. I do not know if there is distributor. I need to get in there. Thanks for the reply.

MY MAIL GOT SCREWED UP--I JUST GOT THE NOTIFICATION

I TRIED TO LOOK UP YOU RIG AT AUTOZONE. COM

I FIND A 5.3 AND A 6.0 FOR V-8s I'M NOT SEEING A 350 (5.7) UNDER SIERRA FOR 1999 (ALSO LOOKED UNDER 1500 AND 2500 2 AND 4WD, I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE)

YOU MIGHT HAVE A DIST OR COIL PACKS--I CAN'T LOOK YOU UP RIGHT, AS OF YET.

HAVE YOU MADE ANY HEADWAY IN THE LAST FEW DAYS?

YOUR TURN

This is a Sierra Classic with the old body style. It is a 1999 and there is a 5.7L V8. I changed the ignition coil but the light came back on. I do have a dist with new wires and plugs. Could there be a problem with the rotor? How do I check that? Any help you could give would be appreciated. Thanks.

HOW 'BOUT A COMPRESSION TEST?

SEE IF #3 IS READING CLOSE TO THE OTHER CYLINDERS (COMPRESSION IS A FACTOR IN EFFICIENT COMBUSTION)

YOU CAN POSSIBLE RENT A COMPRESSION GAUGE AT A PARTS STORE, THEY ARE NOT SUPER EXPENSIVE TO BUY

THIS MAY AID YOU IN THE PROCESS---I REALLY TRY TO PROMOTE DIY--NO NEED IN THE BIG SHOP OWNER GETTING NEW TOYS, WHILE I SCRAPE BY!

BE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN YOU FINDINGS FOR EACH CYLINDER. ACCURACY GOES A LONG WAY!

EVEN THOUGH WE ARE HOPING FOR A EZ, INEXPENSIVE REPAIR, DON'T GO INTO DENIAL WITH ANY FINDINGS. JUST RETEST!

ARE YOUR WIRES PROTECTED WHERE THEY TOUCH OR COULD TOUCH METAL?
