1999 gmc jimmy-a loud popping noise sounding like something grinding and breaks went out, what could be wrong?

Check the brakes all around and also the ABS unit

also steering went out and was hard to turn when this popping sound happened..

Could be the hydro boost pump-that drives the steering and brakes
