How do I know if the drivers side window regulator is bad? The moter makes noise but the window will not go up.

For a while my front windows would not roll (automatic) up.
I thought I had an electrical fault, (they went down fine)
Turns out the window's "x" support frame was getting stuck in the down position.
It turns out that for me, providing sufficient bump to the door freed it up.
I had checked out the switch, and the door wires, it always went down, but intermittantly up.
