1999 Ford Festiva Repair Question

Ford Festiva Brakes Problem
When I try and reverse my back wheel locks up, when I switch it to drive, I can feel something click over and then it'll drive forwards fine.

Sounds as if something as let go in the brakes pull the drum off and inspect for a broken retaining or return spring.
