Engine idle problems then overheating

120,000 MILES I have a 1999 Ford Expedition It was driving great then the engine started sputtering (mis-ideling), then the Service engine Soon light comes on. Driving back home it started getting hot yet didn't over heat it got up to 3/4 hot! I looked at the engine and it looked ok.

Have it checked for fault codes with a scan tool. Are there any warning lights on the dash? Have you refilled with dodgy fuel perhaps?

Please post the exact code numbers you have take it to a auto parts store and have them scan it for codes. Write the code numbers down.
