I was stuck in traffic for about 10-15 minutes, then when I would accelerate I could hear a loud clicking/knocking sound. Soon I could hear the sound with out accelerating, then the truck shut down. I turn on my hazard lights and waited for a tow truck. While waiting I notice the radio clock was still on while the truck was off, then soon the hazard lights was not working. The truck would not turn over right away, but after about 10 minutes it turned over, but i heard that noise again and turn it off. The gas light was on also? I got a call from the shop today and was told that the durango had the wrong battery/amperage and that was what caused the problem. Does this sound correct? especially with the loud clicking/knocking? I also smelled a little smoke.

from your description, no. the battery may be one problem but you have other issues with the noise. do not take the car without them finding the issue with the noise.
