Do I need to take my car back to the shop after using my new brakes for awhile?

I know little or nothing about cars. I recently had new front and rear rotors and pads put on my 1999 Deville. I remember going to the shop when I was a kid with my Dad over 40 years ago. He used to take his car back after getting new brakes and using them for awhile to have them "bled?" and to have the brake pedal "racheted up?". Does this still need to be done on a 1999 Cadillac Deville?

As long as there working good there is no need to take them back in.
