I drove the car and parked it in my driveway. Then I went out to start it and it would not start. When I turn the key all the lights turn on but the starter will not even turn over. I dont hear the it even click. I changed out the battery no luck. I did take it out of park and tried to start it in Neutral no luck. Put i back in park and tried again. I tried my spare key no luck. I am going to replace the starter today. Any thing else I can try. I will let you know if the starter is bad once I get it tested. I might have it rebuilt while I have it out.

Do you have a custom or limited model?Does the security light flash or stay on solid when it doesn't start? When you turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine over can you hear the fuel pump run in the tank for 5 seconds?

Please run down this guide and report back.

Replaced battery, starter, tried the spare key, checked the fuses, all the lights turn on, the gas pump works, the ac works, windows work, tried starting in Neutral, then park again, 12 volts going to the starter, and the car will not start. It will not even turn over. What can I do next?

The security light was flashing when I tried to start the car. Since the security light was flashing it was the anti theft system not working. So I had to pull the steering wheel. To prevent the air bag going off I disconnected the battery and waited 10 mins. This will prevent the bag from deploying. Once I pulled the wheel I could pull the ignition switch and see that the wire was cut for the anti theft system. Disconnected the wire and got a new switch at the dealer. Had to get the switched coded for my current keys. Then I reinstalled the new switch and it started. Then reinstalled the string wheel and there you have it.

On my 1999 LeSabre, very often when I get in the car and try to start it, a security light will be on and when trying to start it, nothing happens. I have to play around with the remote usually for 5-10 minutes before the light goes out and car starts.
Is this caused by a keyless entry remote, a worn out chip on the key, or something else?
Please help with any info you might have.
Thank you

It has a fault with the theft system. You need to have it scanned for trouble codes at the dealer. Post the codes for me so we can have a good starting point for diagnosing the problem.

1999 Buick LeSabre will not start. It has a new starter, fuel pump, fuel pump relay and battery, the power seats, and power windows will not work as well. The car will start and run for about 30 sec. before shutting off by itself.

no keeping a foot on the gas does not keep it running. Why would that have anything to do with the seats and windows not working?

Car wouldn't start. Replaced 3 cylinder coils. Pulled spark plugs and they were "wet" with oil. Changed those and also needed to replace the cooling termostat. Car started (with a jump). Runs smooth but puts out heavy white smoke from exhaust. HELP!! (The termostat had been taped for some time, i think that may have lead to the major problem. The car would periodically "cut out" when the air was going and it was on an incline but it never ran hot.

White smoke means the engine in burning coolant. Usually the first suspicion would be a blown head gasket from overheating but this particular engine has a known problem with the plastic intake manifold deteriorating and leaking coolant into the valley and eventually into the intake port.
Here is a TSB on it.

Thank you so much for your consideration in answering my question. If this is done either intake manifold or the head gasket, do you know about what cost i am looking at? I really do like my car!

The intake manifold job could run in the $500 range but a head gasket problem could run anywhere between $800 and $1500, depending how much damage was done.

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, Do you hear the fuel pump come On when you turn key on? If not check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay if so, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing

Pump is fine, fuel pressure is fine. Had to replace a coil because some moisture got in there. Now all the coils are fine, snappy, and blue. sensors and computer will have to wait until tomorrow. all other theories are welcome in the meantime.

4 days ago my car stalled out as I was driving thru approx 4-6 inches of flood waters.
Yesterday I went to pick it up from the shop the cops had it towed to and it
wouldn't start. The battery is good and it starts to try to turn over but it can't quite get
there. Any idea what could be wrong or what I should do first when I
try to fix it?

Since you were in water, my guess is something in the ignition system has gotten wet. Check to see if you are getting spark to the plugs. If not, then you need to determine what is causing the issue. It could be a crank sensor, module...

Good day, my car used to run fine until one day I was swapping my car battery and accidentally bridged the positive and negative terminals on my top post battery with the metal ratchet. I was using to tighten the bolts now the car will not crank or roll over. All the lights and horn and everything still work fine radio turns on and everything just will not crank. Already changed the starter hoping it would be the culprit but no change checked all the fuses and they seemed okay. any help on this matter would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

try a different key or resetting security system. Also, check all fuses under hood with a volt meter or test light. See link.

my 1999 buick lesabre is heat sensitive. On hot days when parked on the blacktop it wont start. Acts like no spark as the engine turns over quickly and does not give any indication it is trying to start. If you pour water over the engine it fires right up and usually is fine. On really hot days it will run a bit rough on the freeway. I have changed the fuel pump and the electronic ignition module, the coils read within reccomended tolerances when tested with an ohm meter. Strangely the car even when it has sat for hours on the hot pavement feels very hot and steams like crazy when you pour water on the engine...it then starts up. Also never have any problem when the weather is cool...I live in redding california so 110 degree days are not horribly uncommon and have not doubt that blacktop temps exceed 150 degrees

Well you have a testing method going. We have done similiar in similiar situation. Instead of pouring water, take a rag or washcloth and soak it in a bucket of ice cold water. When the no start happens, place it specifically on particular components.

I would not assume the ignition module is good because it is new. Might be bad out of the box.

Using the cooling method of testing should lead you to the component.

Unless you have a scanner that can read the data stream, or a spark tester, this is an inexpensive way to flush out the source.

Check the connector at the module for being clean.

You can try disconnecting the coolant temp sensor and see if that makes a difference.

I have been unable to determine the cause of the problem by using water to cool a part or by using a heat gun to apply heat.

A friend has a professional type scan tool (more sophisticated than the run of the mill OBD II. It reads recent fault codes reflecting high signat at MAP sensor as well as p1361 and p1362 which seem to indicate either a bad wire harness connection in the ignition system (though we could not find one) or an Ignition module or ecm failure.

Could the symptom be a bad MAP Sensor, where should I start?

I would go back to the ignition module. Even though you replaced it, I have seen multipul failures with some brands. Either find a known good module from a junk yard or get a delphi or a/c delco module.

I have a 1999 Buick Lesabre with approx 110k miles.
There is an ignition problem:

Sometimes it works fine.

Other times the Security light in the dash comes on and the car will not start.
Usually after waiting for a period of 4 or 5 minutes, the light goes out and the car starts normally.
Any ideas on what's going on with this?

Thanks
Bill

The car has been the shop. The ignition switch has been replaced. Several different ignition keys have been used with the same result. The person at the shop wants to try to convince me that the starter has a "dead spot". It always works fine when he is trying it.

Replaced 3 cylinder coils still wouldn't start, pulled plugs and they were "wet" with oil. Changed those and also replaced the cooling termostat. She'll start but puts out heavy white smoke. Car runs smooth tho... HELP. Am I looking at a major fix??? Seems like it!!!

I'd check compression. The smoke may be coolant getting into the cylinder/s? Bad gasket, cracked head?
